I was watching a speech given to a Connecticut gun task force where a father was speaking. This father lost a son who was killed in the sandy hook shooting. It was understandable if this father would have given a speech blaming firearms and that they were the sole reason his son is no longer with him. However, this brave patriot took an entirely different tact and for that I salute him.

This father states,  ”The problem is not gun laws, it is civility.” He continues to go on about how guns are not the problem and the mass shooting are only a symptom a much large problem in our American society. He says that individual accountability needs be the name of the game along with good, solid parenting to instill moral values in our children.

He next talks about Chicago gun laws and the lack of effect they have had on the city. As he states criminals don’t follow the laws by definition. One more law will not stop them as they currently do not. Finally he talks on mental health and that most of these shooters are suffering from mental health issues. We need to revamp our health services instead of passing more laws which won’t change the status quo.
